About
The Social Committee
'For the Moral Revival of the Fatherland'
The
Social Committee 'For the Moral Revival of the Fatherland' was organised in 1994
by the initiative group under the head of two Orthodox priests: Rev. Alexander
Shargunov (now the Chairman) and Rev. Stephan Krassovitsky (the Vice-Chairman).
The
Committee consists primarily of the representatives of the Orthodox clergy and
Russian Christian intelligentsia: scientists, writers, actors, painters, medical
and social workers etc. Our main office is in Moscow, but we have affiliates in
several other cities of Russia.
The
principal aim of the Committee is to struggle against public indecency,
porno-propaganda and so called “sex-educational programs” for Youth
organised and maintained by the State and private agencies and institutions
through their mass-media and advertisements.
The
following main methods of the struggle are used:
We
are protesting against the indecent outdoor advertisements to the State Antiexclusive
Ministry of Russia. Since it violates Russian law on advertisement, in most
cases State agency removes this posters.
Mass
meetings and demonstrations against pornography and obscene advertisements were
also organised by our Committee. For instance many thousands people meeting in
front of the Mayors of Moscow in
1998; in front of the German
embassy in 1998 (because
of the participation of the German publishing corporation “Burda” in Russian
youth magazines “Cool” and “Cool-girl”); more the 40 thousands meeting
near the Ostankino TV centre in 1997 against the demonstration of the
blasphemous and obscene film “The last temptation of Christ” (by Martin
Scorceze); and similar actions.
We
have a panel of experts, monitoring morals on Russian TV.
In
November 2001 we have launched campaign against Moscow TV show analogous to
"Temptation Island".
We
publish our booklets (under the general headline “Antichrist in Moscow”) and
read lectures in public places and over the radio. Our web-site http://www.komitee.r2.ru
operates now as well.
We
are trying to influence various legislative bodies through the members of the
Russian Parliament sharing our views, through the parliamentary commissions,
President administration, human rights organisations and other bodies and
agencies (sometimes taking part in their work as consultants).
